Mental Health First Aid Essentials - Virtual Training
Learning to support persons who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Essentials is the initial support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. This virtual training session, delivered in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association - Newfoundland and Labrador (CMHA-NL), is designed to provide participants with the practical skills and knowledge needed to offer support until professional help is available.
What You Will Learn
Course participants will learn how to:
- Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis.
- Facilitate supportive conversations that encourage a person to talk about their mental health.
- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being.
- Assist effectively in a mental health or substance use crisis.
- Use MHFA actions to maintain and protect one’s own mental well-being.
Important Logistics
- Certification: Participants will receive a certificate of participation from CMHA-NL upon successful completion of the training.
- Attendance: Full attendance is mandatory for the entire duration of the session (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) to be eligible for certification.
- Cancellation: If your plans change, please notify us via email at amalue@amalnl.ca in advance so that another person has the opportunity to join.
- Virtual Access: The link to join the session will be shared with registered participants via email.
