The Millennial Inc. Pitch Competition is back!

This is a chance for participating Fredericton High School, Leo Hayes High School, and other high school students in the Fredericton area to showcase their hands-on entrepreneurial skills. They will be pitching their innovative business ideas in front of guests, teachers, mentors, judges, and business experts. Students who are pitching have the chance to gain real-life skills while the event as whole aims to increase the entrepreneurial spirit amongst millennials living in the Fredericton area. Those competing will have the chance to win $500 in prize money. Guests who are watching the competition will have an extensive opportunity to view the future leaders of our nation demonstrate their ideas.

We are high school student organizers dedicated to fostering youth entrepreneurship amongst the high school population in order to strengthen our community.

The event will be held March 23rd, 2018 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Planet Hatch. Supper and dessert will be provided. Emails will be sent out as a reminder.

  • Sandy Bird

    Sandy Bird

    IBM Security

    Sandy Bird was the co-founder and CTO of Q1 Labs, now part of IBM. Today, he's the CTO for IBM Security and is responsible for the company's strategic technology direction. Sandy has extensive technology experience specializing in database design and development for web applications. Prior to IBM and Q1 Labs, he held a variety of technical positions at the University of New Brunswick in support, development and administration. Sandy studied Electrical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick and was named an IBM Fellow in 2014.

    Junior Achievement NB

    Haley graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2013! Since then, she has held a number of management roles in the golf industry and most recently the non-profit sector. She is currently working as a Regional Manager with Junior Achievement New Brunswick. Through her work at JA, Haley is helping to shape the next generation of business leaders in New Brunswick through entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness programs.

  • Kathryn Chamberlain

    Kathryn Chamberlain

    Beauceron Security Inc.

    Kathryn Chamberlain is a 2017 Venture for Canada Fellow. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce with a minor in Mathematics from Mount Allison University. She was quick to land the title of Business Development Officer at, New Brunswick startup, Beauceron Security where she is known for employee engagement and organizational behaviour. Kathryn is keenly interested in helping companies develop their cybersecurity culture.

    Devin Dupuis is currently employed with Go-Go Group Inc as a Lead Coordinator. She has spent her past 3 years in this position fostering her love for educating children and growing her leadership abilities. She has had the privilege of working closely with her company's founder and owner, Kara Angus, learning many entrepreneurial skills and listening to Kara's many stories about becoming an entrepreneur herself. In 2017, she received her BA from St. Thomas University, majoring in English with minors in Spanish and Sociology. In the fall, she will be attending STU to become a teacher. My passion for education started at a young age and has only grown from there. This past year, Devin received Volunteer of the Year from her hard work through Junior Achievement New Brunswick. This program was not only a learning opportunity for the students, but also for Devin and the other advisors as they learned new skills along the way.     Jacob Lingley is a Program Director at Brilliant Labs, an organization that is intent supporting the innovative, entrepreneurial efforts of Atlantic Canadian Youth. Recently named as an New Brunswick Innovator, Jacob remains devoted to sharing his passion for life-long learning while working with New Brunswick students on their latest inventions. A self described geek, this former mathematics teacher is convinced that if the current rate of innovation continues, our students will create a culture of progress that redefines what it means to be a New Brunswicker.

  • Joanna Nickerson

    Joanna Nickerson

    Pond-Deshpande Centre

    With a strong background in both business and non-profit organizations, Joanna is motivated to enable social entrepreneurship in the region. As the Social Innovation Manager at the Pond-Deshpande Centre, Joanna manages the B4C Accelerator – a program which facilitates and nurtures high-impact ventures and is the first social enterprise accelerator in the region. Joanna graduated from the University of New Brunswick with her Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. Joanna is passionate about supporting social change through collaboration and innovation and is dedicated to encouraging changemakers around her. In addition to supporting social innovators in the community, she herself is a social entrepreneur who recently launched the GTFO adventure club which seeks to build confidence, capacity and community in women through adventure.

  • Melissa Erin O'Rourke

    Melissa Erin O'Rourke

    Summer Institute

    Melissa is a community builder who is passionate about creativity and entrepreneurship. Her professional background includes journalism, government relations, non-profit leadership, and local economic development. Presently, she leads the Summer Institute with the J Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of New Brunswick; an early stage accelerator program that works with ventures across all sectors. Notable alumni from the program include Wear Your Label, Stash Energy Storage, and Vertiball. Melissa holds a BA in International Relations from Mount Allison University and is pursuing her Master of Public Administration through Dalhousie University. In 2017, Melissa became a Resident for the Global Accelerator Network and spent three months working with ABC Accelerator in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is an acrylics artist and serves as an executive member on the board of directors for the Charlotte Street Arts Centre.
