A Question of Care (QoC) is a Peterborough-based capacity-building initiative focused on building and strengthening skills, knowledge, and awareness to address the intersections between substance use, stigma, mental illness, and trauma. Participants will be able to attend online or call in over the phone.Course DescriptionMotivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred, directive method of communication for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change and is recognized as an effective evidence-based approach to support autonomy and long-term behaviour change.In this two-part interactive workshop, we will explore how to enhance our conversation style with clients as they contemplate change. We will discuss topics such as how to explore ambivalence, roll with resistance, and elicit change-talk. It was there at the shelter that she became aware of the devastating cycle of addiction. Cheryl has been offering counselling for individuals concerned with their mental health and addictions for over seventeen years and has been a registered psychotherapist since 2015. Cheryl worked at a community addiction centre for fifteen years before serving as the Clinical Director of a residential treatment centre for two years. Currently, Cheryl works at Hope for Today Counselling in private practice and offers presentations in the community to help reduce stigma concerning mental health and addictions.Jennifer MaddanJennifer Maddan has been working in the field of addiction and mental health for 15 years and has been a registered psychotherapist since 2016. Jennifer worked for 13 years at a community addiction centre before becoming the Clinical Team Lead at a residential treatment centre providing trauma and mental health treatment for military and first responders. We define &quot;helping professional&quot; as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.How many people can attend?Registration for this workshop has been capped at 35 participants.What is a level one core QoC workshop?This refers to a workshop that is a part of QoC&#x27;s core curriculum and is offered at a more basic, 101 level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience.Will I receive a certificate for attending?Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendance after participating in the workshop and filling out a post-course evaluation.Will these sessions be recorded?No, these sessions will not be recorded in order to maintain the privacy of participants, but any relevant slides and handouts will be sent to attendees.What is your refund policy?We can offer refunds up to seven days before the first session.
