Experience the integrated relationship between embodied movement and traditional Japanese calligraphy in this open-level workshop.

This Movement + Calligraphy workshop includes an introductory lesson on Japanese calligraphy, led by local calligraphy artist Kisyuu, leading into an improvised movement practice with Shion Skye Carter where participants embody the brushstrokes of their calligraphy piece. Join us to explore mind-body connection while experiencing a traditional art form from a contemporary perspective.This 1.5 hr event is free for participants; please register on this Eventbrite page to secure your spot in the workshop. Maximum 15 participants. Masks are highly encouraged. Please wear clothing that you're comfortable dancing in. *Note: the workshop will be filmed for professional development and archival purposes, participants must consent to filming upon registration.This workshop is supported by Powell Street Festival, as part of community outreach for Shion's upcoming dance performance Residuals (住み・墨), as well as the Youth BC Dance and Research Project through Dance West Network.
