With their gnarly primordial punk stew and funny lyrics as potent a combination as they’ve been since the band’s formation in the late 1980s. From taking on climate change from the perspective of the climate if the climate tried to play guitar like Jimi Hendrix (“Cry Me An Atmospheric River”) to a driving rock and roll song about taking drugs meant for livestock (“Here Comes the Flood”) to a classic punk attack on treating humans like livestock (“Human Stock Capital”), Plastic Eternity (released in 2023) is a heady run through all the proto-genres of guitar rock with a keen eye on the inanities of the world in the 2020’s.</p><p><a href="https://mudhoney.org/" title="https://mudhoney.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">mudhoney.org</a></p><p><br></p><h3>Gadfly</h3><p>What happens when you grow up pissed off, angry, and emotional? You turn it into noise. Gadfly was formed by Homa and Nigel Young, with bassist Hansen Thingvold. It’s a bilingual, genre-obliterating scream in the face of erasure, repression, and whatever fake shit the scene is selling. It’s not punk. It’s not metal. It’s not shoegaze. It’s not indie. It’s all of it chewed up and spit back out with distortion and disgust. Think: a loud, sketchy basement show with nihilistic lyrics and a full-blown meltdown. Think: sweating through trauma in Farsi and English. Think: grief and rage slamming into a strobe light at the same time.And this is just the beginning. DIY label. No management. No rules.
