How do we walk with the more-than-human world? What might it mean to listen to a city as more than a backdrop for human stories?This 4-session seminar workshop is designed for researchers, emergent and senior scholars, graduate students, PhD candidates, artists and faculty who want to explore the and be curious walkers to explore embodied, multimodal approaches to researching urban spaces with a focus on streets, parks, buses, and the everyday landscapes we move through.Grounded in walking methodologies (Springgay &amp; Truman) and guided by decolonial and post-humanist sensibilities, we will unlearn the idea of the researcher as a detached observer. Instead, we will practice walking with with the pavement, with the wind, with the non-human inhabitants and material traces that co‑create the city. Each session introduces a different audiovisual tool as a mode of attunement: sketching, photography, video, and audio recording. Through these practices, we will ask: how can we gather knowledge that does not center the human alone, but attends to the entanglements of bodies, objects, sounds, and landscapes?Participants will leave with not only practical skills in multimodal data collection but also a critical framework for thinking about research as a creative, situated, and ethically attentive practice.Session 1: Sketching: Mark-Making as AttunementSession 2: Photography: Framing the More-Than-HumanSession 3: Video Recording: Walking with the Moving GazeSession 4: Audio Recording: Deep Listening to the City Who Is This For?<ul><li>Qualitative researchers and ethnographers interested in innovative, sensory methods</li><li>Artists, writers, and creatives working with place and walking practices</li><li>Urbanists, geographers, and cultural studies scholars</li><li>Anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with their city through attentive, ethical, and creative practice</li></ul>No prior experience with drawing, photography, video, or audio is required, only a willingness to walk, wonder, and experiment.Materials: Participants will need a notebook and pen/pencil, a smartphone or camera for photography and video, and a smartphone or portable recorder for audio.Facilitator:Dr. Yecid Ortega has been committed to critical, creative, anti-racist, and decolonial worldviews in research and education for over two decades. He explores the pluriversality of social, cultural, and linguistic experiences of the most marginalized communities in society. He is the founder of Liminal Research Services and co-founder of Artem Research Collective. Fees:One payment of $120 CAD (+fees) for 1 package of 4 sessions.
