<P>Our #WomenInSTEM series continues as we celebrate National Engineering Month and take a look at life as an engineer. Featuring presentations from Alyne G. Teixeira, PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering, and Vanessa Raponi, Materials Engineer, this is your opportunity to find out what a day in the life of an engineer is really like! What is engineering, what does an engineer do and what does it mean to be one? Spoiler: it’s not all hard hats!</P>

<P>Vanessa Raponi graduated from McMaster University in 2018 with a degree in Materials Engineering & Management. She's now an Engineer Intern at Spin Master Ltd (the #3 toy manufacturer in the world!) in the rotational Engineering Management Development Program. During her schooling, she completed 28 months of co-op in 4 different industries, founded the national non-profit EngiQueers Canada (with the goal of improving diversity in engineering), and was awarded the Engineers Canada 2018 Gold Medal Student Award.</P>

<P>Joining us via videolink all the way from Halifax is Alyne G. Teixeira. Alyne completed her undergraduate degree in Industrial Pharmacy and her Masters degree in Biosciences and Technology of Bioactive Products in Brazil. As an industry scientist, she conducted many research projects involving pharmaceutical R&D. She volunteered as a research assistant in the Dalhousie University in the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science, before joining the School of Biomedical Engineering as a PhD student in 2016. Currently, she is developing a high-throughput immunotherapy screening with microreactors. This novel platform will be able to evaluate very small amounts of both cells and drugs, making immunotherapy discovery more cost-effective, and less complex compared to conventional methods.</P>
