New West Improv's improv comedy jam!

New West Improv's improv comedy jam!

Anvil CentreNew Westminster, BC
Saturday, Feb 21 from 2:15 pm to 4 pm PST
Overview

Connect with others at the New West Improv improv comedy jam; it's gonna be fun!

Hi! I’m Leah from New West Improv, and I’d love for you to join me for community, connection, and spontaneity. We’ll explore improv in a small-group setting—no experience required (but welcome).

Improv games with a fluid agenda: This is not an improv show; everyone will participate! Depending on the group’s collective improv experience, we might touch on core improv principles (“yes, and…”), play a few warm-up games, and/or dive into short scenes. Our previous jams included improv newbies and intermediates. Everyone jumped in with enthusiasm, supported each other with kindness, and generally gave off "good vibes". That's the goal every single time!

You are welcome here. Yes, even if you are not based in New West. We celebrate all identities—race, gender, sexuality, and more—because all identities make New West such a vibrant community. We’ll aim to keep the space respectful and free of triggering or offensive content, though improv can sometimes bring out unexpected moments. For that reason, we recommend this jam for participants aged 16+.

Thank you to the Halkomelem speaking peoples whose unceded and unsurrendered land we are fortunate to play, laugh and connect on.

Nervous about improv? You're not alone! The purpose of New West Improv is not for attendees to become the next Colin Mochrie (though he is a great improv-er)—it’s to connect with folks through the joy of improv.

More things to know:

  • Please register (don't just show up): There is limited space for this event/the venue so register to nab your spot.
  • Activity level and what to wear: Wear something comfy and easy to move in—improv can get playful though how much you move is up to you. Feel free to modify or opt out of activities as needed.
  • Donations welcome! New West Improv is just getting started so any amount you can share to contribute to venue rentals helps greatly. Donations can be made in cash or sent via etransfer to newwestimprov@gmail.com.
