Newfoundland Tea Bun Workshop
Event Information
Description
Tea buns are a staple in the province with many mothers and grandmothers handing down recipes to their children and grandchildren. Baker Alanna Wicks of The Rolling Pin Bakery, who learned her great-grandmother’s recipe from her father, will teach students the basics of tea bun baking including her family’s secret ingredient.
About the instructor:
Alanna Wicks is a public Folklorist and Archivist who is currently employed with the City of St. John’s Archives. Alanna is also the baker / decorator behind The Rolling Pin Bakery, a local, home-based bakery. Alanna has been baking since childhood, watching and learning from her grandmother and parents as they shared recipes in their family kitchen. One of the most loved family recipes Alanna bakes is her grandmother’s Newfoundland Tea Buns, which she learned from watching her father bake countless times throughout her childhood and still today.
