About

The 2020 NorthSec (NSec) edition will take place :

  • May 10th - 13th for the Training Sessions : Holiday Inn, 99, Viger Street West
  • May 14th, 15th for the Conference (and workshops) : Montreal Science Centre
  • May 15th, 16th, 17th for the Competition (CTF) : Bonsecours Market

NEW * If you want to help make NorthSec more Eco-Friendly and reduce its carbon footprint, you can choose an Eco-Friendly ticket when ordering. With this option two things will happen:

1) we will not order a T-Shirt, mug and electronic badge for you (please bring your own drinking appartus for the event).
2) we will put aside the $ amount of the cost of these 3 items to buy RECs and/or Carbon Offset certified to a recognized standard after the event. The final numbers will be made public.


FAQ - PLEASE, READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE ORDERING

1) Does the ticket price include taxes ?

The listed price does not include GST/QST and eventbrite fees but they will be automatically calculated at checkout. Tax numbers are displayed in the ticket description.

2) Is there an early bird discount ?

Yes. Here are the details:

4) Students Discount for FULL TIME students only.

We are making great efforts to make the event accessible to all student. We are offering a 50% off of the full final price (not the Early Bird price) on conference and competition registrations.

To get the discount, DO NOT purchase your ticket before having the discount code. Simply email us at registration@nsec.io with your student emails address to receive a discount code to make the purchase using the code. If you register as a student, a valid student id card and proof of current full-time attendance will be requested to retrieve your badge.

Early Bird rebate does NOT stack on top of Student discount.

5) What can/can't I bring to the event?

You can bring whatever you need. Make yourself confortable. We encourage you to bring decorations (gear, fun stuff, your preferred teddy bear) for the competition, as long as it is within the code of conduct.

7) Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes. Check out this page on how to transfer your ticket to someone else. We will not assist with ticket transfer. You can transfer your event ticket/registration to someone else just by updating your order information with the new attendee's information.

8) Can I upgrade my ticket to include the Conference and/or Trainings at a later date?

Yes but we will charge you the price difference from the upgrade at the date it is requested, not at the time you originally purchased your ticket. To get a ticket upgrade, follow the instruction on this page.

9) Is a competition ticket included with my training ticket?

Upon request only. To get your competition ticket, simply email us at registration@nsec.io with your order confirmation number.

10) Is my registration refundable?

All ticket sales are final, no refunds.

11) Competition Teams

When you register for the competition, you will by asked to register a team. Once registered, you will be able to send invitations to your team members so they can join your team. If you want to, you can make your team public so other people can join it.

Any team of less than 8 people will receive a notice 1-2 weeks before the event about team merging. We will automatically merge people in your team to make's sure every team has 8 participants.

12) Individual participant

Don't worry, we will find a team for each individual participants.

13) Why are we asking for your age?

There will be a bar service during the event and the organisation will ensure that no participant under 18 will be able to drink alcohol on site.

14) What are the talks for this year?

Conference talks will be announced later, after the CFP rounds are over.

15) What are the training sessions for this year?

A complete list of the training sessions will be available soon on our website : nsec.io. Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the announcements.

16) Do I need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visitor visa (and letter of invitation)?

Starting March 15, 2017, visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Exceptions include U.S. citizens and foreign nationals with a valid visa. For more information, visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp.

If you need a letter of invitation, contact us at registration@nsec.io, with your ticket confirmation number to proceed with the details. Please note that you need to contact us at least 2 months before the event.

17) Will you be sharing my information with sponsors and/or vendors?

No. We do not share any personal information with anyone outside the organization and access to this information is limited to our executive board on a "need-to-know" basis. We do ask for generic information about your job type in order to build global statistics about the event. We do abide by the Canadian and Quebec privacy acts.

18) Are there any specific rules for attending NorthSec?

19) Are there any options to Carbon Offset my attendance?

Yes, an Eco-Friendly option will be available during your purchase. With this option two things will happen:

  • We will put aside the $ amount of the cost of these 3 items to buy RECs and/or Carbon Offset certified to a recognized standard after the event.

The final numbers will be made public.

20) Does the ticket include food during the event?

Generally speaking, no, the ticket does not include daily meals, though a light breakfast, fruits and refreshments might be available during the event.

Some side-events during the CTF might include a sponsored snack offering.

21) How do I register for my CPE credits from ISC2?

Unfortunately NorthSec being a non-profit, we can't afford the substantial ISC2 fees for being directly listed on their Website.You can directly claim for the duration of what event you attended with your eventbrite ticket as a proof:

  • If you register for a a training you can claim the entire training duration in days.
  • If you register for the conference you can claim 14 hours.
  • If you register for the CTF you can claim 3 days.
