Anti-racist & anti-discriminatory practice

<p>In preparation of International Trans Day of Remembrance on November 20, the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) invites practitioners to unlearn unconscious bias, assumptions and practices that may be harmful to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and expand your understanding and skillset to better support this historically marginalized and oppressed community. </p><p>This practical workshop offers  an orientation to <a href="https://www.legalinfo.org/beyondthebinary" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><em>Moving Beyond the Binary: a Guide on How to Make Your Organization Meaningfully Inclusive of Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Diverse People</em></a>. The Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia launched this lovely publication on the International Day of Trans Visibility, March 31, 2022. </p><p>This guide is filled with a wealth of useful information on meaningfully including gender diverse folks at work and has many supports and resources alongside the publication. The Moving Beyond the Binary team will walk you through these pieces and will leave you with actionable steps you can take to move in the direction of inclusivity. Let's grow together and move beyond the binary!</p><h2>Speakers</h2><h3>Shila LeBlanc</h3><p>Shila LeBlanc (Shy-la, she/her) is a queer settler located in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, NS). She is a restorative practitioner and educator and is deeply invested in conflict resolution processes that centre voice and choice. She is proud to support Legal Information NS in multiple projects connected to the queer community. Outside of this, she founded Restorative Approach and works with organizations to support them in repairing and strengthening their communities when conflict naturally arises. </p><h3>Shae Morse</h3><p>Shae Morse (they/them) is a transgender non-binary middle school teacher who lives and works in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. They have been a 2SLGBTQIA+ community organizer and activist alongside their education career of 10 years. Shae specializes in providing training on inclusive gender and sexuality practices, bringing an interesting and engaging mix of lived experience and research-based findings to their sessions. Shae is passionate about building healthy communities for all despite present day challenges.</p><h2>Eligibility</h2><p>This event is open to everyone.</p><p>You'll need a device that can use <a href="https://zoom.us/test" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoom</a>, and a reasonably reliable internet connection.</p><h2>Social workers' professional development</h2><p>Participating in this workshop may fulfil part of the newly mandated requirements for all social workers in Nova Scotia to complete annual <strong>training  in anti-racist &amp; anti-discriminatory practice</strong>.
