What about all our precious things and their inevitable loss? What do we hold dear vs. what we forget to remember to hold dear? What&#x27;s most precious is lost in the turmoil, but can be found again.the village trilogy (1995) Laura Taler / 24 minLaura Taler’s directorial debut, the village trilogy, alludes to the millions of people uprooted through emigration in the past century while exploring ideas of home and family. Employing the physical characteristics of early cinema, Taler and her dancers capture a time and place that is beyond our grasp, but not beyond our memory. The film won Best Experimental Film at the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival, a Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, and the Cinédanse Award for Best Canadian Dancefilm at Moving Pictures.Bringing the land to the City (2020) Carmel Whittle / 20 minBringing the Land to the City honours the essential elements of the planet: air, water, earth and fire. It draws us across creeks, waterfalls and inland woods, through fire, to the wind and the ocean using slow motion and sound to create a hypnotic connection to each element. This film is a tribute to the land, the air, the waters and the fire from my Newfoundland and Labrador Mi’kmaq/Beothuk homeland to the Algonquin territory where I have been a guest for half of my life.The Eventual De-Expression of RGS2 (2017) Yvonne Coutts / 16 minTaking a cue from Diane Arbus’ A Flower Girl at a Wedding, Connecticut (1964), RGS2 is a meditation on nervous system fragility. Music composed by Jesse Stewart with performances by Kay Kenney and Jesse Stewart. Video by Colin Power.
