CARFAC Alberta is a non-profit, Provincial Arts Service Organization (PASO) and the provincial affiliate for CARFAC National. Our mission is to promote the visual arts in Alberta and assist Alberta artists, providing a communication hub between members of the visual arts community and the general public.  Additionally, it is the goal ofCARFACAlbertato provide Alberta artists with current, vital information on arts opportunities locally, regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally to ensure that they are able to actively and knowledgeably participate in the broader visual arts world.

Can you grow and maintain a career in the visual arts while living outside major centres? This webinar focuses on two prairie artists, Peter von Tiesenhausen + Heather Benning and how they build their art careers.Heather Benning currently lives and works in Swift Current, though much of her career has been spent in rural Saskatchewan. She completed a bachelor of fine arts degree from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2004, and a master of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art in 2009. Between her degrees, Benning returned to Saskatchewan, where she completed several large-scale, site-specific installations. She has had numerous solo and group shows throughout Canada (Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Ontario) and abroad (United States, Spain, Germany, Scotland, England and France). Heather’s work has been reviewed in Canadian Art Magazine (Spring 2005, 2011), Sculpture Magazine (Spring 2008), Galleries West (2009), Espace (Winter 2009/2010), Uppercase Magazine (Issue 8), Studio Magazine, and The National Post.Heather was the CARFAC SASK 2019-2020 Travelling Mentor. She conducted studio visits, artist talks and workshops with rural artists throughout Saskatchewan. <a href="http://www.heatherbenning.ca" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">heatherbenning.ca</a>Peter von Tiesenhausen is a multi-media Canadian artist whose work has lead him through journeys both real and imagined. Based in the Alberta Peace country, Demmitt specifically, he has exhibited across Canada, in Europe and the United States in public galleries and throughout the landscape. His practice has grown from landscape painting to installation, sculpture, performance and from simple media to complex combinations of media and multifaceted collaborations. He claims copyright on his land as an artwork. His work often deals with the ideas of time, life, voyage, death, spirit, nature and humanity. There is a strong pursuit of sustainability often evident in the work and an attempt to understand time and substance from a variety of perspectives.
