DARC’s Cinematography workshop is a 4-day intensive dive into what it means to be a cinematographer, bringing a director’s vision to life through relevant visual design and the language of cinematography. Through case studies, hands-on demonstration in studio, and group work on location we put these theories into practice and explore approaches at multiple budget levels.The intermediate-level workshop is suitable for people with basic knowledge of camera work who are looking to further develop their skills as a cinematographer. It is designed for those who want to improve their use of the camera in visual storytelling and learn more about lighting and operating. T﻿his workshop takes place at the DARC Soundstage , a 600 square foot video production facility located in uOttawa&#x27;s Morisset Hall (65 University Private).Course Outline:- Prep for success: Creative and technical conversations with the director and your team- Camera, lens, and lighting choices for varying budgets- Using and augmenting natural light- Advanced lighting techniques- Tough setups, tight locations, slow-motion work, remote locationsRegistrationSession 1: Saturday, May 13, 10am-4pmSession 2: Sunday, May 14, 10am-4pmSession 3: Saturday, May 20, 10am-4pmSession 4: Sunday, May 21, 10am-4pmParticipants will need access to:All equipment will be provided by DARC.Any additional materials will be sent in advance via email.InstructorBen Hoskyn is a cinematographer and producer across narrative features, live multi-cam shoots, viral ads and documentary series. He is a founding member of Space Tigers Inc, a production pipeline offering VFX and post-production services.Workshop PricingThis workshop is $300 for Members and $350 for Non-Members. DARC is located on the main floor (one story above ground) of the Arts Court building. DARC’s main entrance is located at 67 Nicholas Street which is fully wheelchair accessible. Alternate wheelchair-accessible entry is available through 2 Daly Ave at the Arts Court main entrance or the Ottawa Art Gallery. Elevator access is available from 9AM – 11PM. The DARC Soundstage is a 600 square foot video production facility located in uOttawa&#x27;s Morisset Hall (65 University Private). 65 University Private is located one story below ground. This entrance has a wheelchair accessible ramp, but no accessibility buttons to press for automatic entry. Alternate wheelchair-accessible entry is available through Cumberland Street.DARC staff are available and happy to assist with all inquiries and requests regarding physical access.
