Nelles Manor is a historical gem in the heart of Grimsby, and a valuable piece of Canadian heritage.A family home for over two centuries, the Manorhas been often viewed from afar. In 2016, owners Barry and Linda Coutts generously donated their home to a charitable, non-profit corporation created by the family.The Manor, now run by volunteers, exists as a Museum and Heritage House, open for tourists to come and have a look inside!The Nelles name is familiar to those who live in Grimsby, as they were one of the founding families to settle in this part of Upper Canada during the late 18th century.Colonel Robert Nelles built this gorgeous Georgian-style home and resided here with his large family until his death in 1842. The house has passed through 4 successive generations of Nelles descendants, and remains standing today as a testament to Robert's wisdom and perseverance through an ambitious colonial beginning.The rest of the story is told by the house itself... you'll have to come visit in person and see what it has to offer.We offer educational tours, special events, and facility rentals for any occasion.

SOLD OUT!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest info on upcoming events.You'll try out a variety of hearth-cooking techniques with the help of historic Cook Demonstrator Julia Baird, in Nelles Manor's original 230-year old open hearth fireplace. You'll also receive a tour of the museum, time to sit and enjoy the baked goods around the harvest table, and a booklet of recipes to take home.Julia Baird is a Historical Interpreter who has worked in historic house museums with a culinary focus for a decade, using mid 19th-century recipes to cook, bake &amp; preserve using an open hearth, brick oven and wood-fired range. You'll find her Food History blog at www.juliabaird.com. Price: $35/person and includes a tour. Pre-registration is required!Disclaimer: For safety reasons, we recommend that attendees wear closed toe shoes, avoid wearing dangley scarves, sleeves etc., and have their legs and ankles covered.
