We commit to dedicating time and resources to stand and work in solidarity with Indigenous Artists and communities and to support their visions and goals.Speaker Bios:Karma Lacoff: I have worked as an arts administrator, coordinator and talent buyer mostly for music over the last 15 years. I am an amateur dancer - I took ballet and jazz and then was trained in ballroom dance by my mother, James Flamont and Allen Markham for 10 years in International Style Ballroom. I danced until I was in a serious car accident in 2000. At that point I turned to supporting from the back end of the arts instead of being on the floor. In 2003 I was able to dance again but was deep into my post-secondary studies in Cultural Anthropology and Gerontology at Simon Fraser University. Having also studied in a focused Art and Community Semester in Dialogue program at SFU with Judith Marcus as a leading facilitator, I engaged with dance through her guidance over the four month program in a whole new way, looking deeply at community engagement in the process of creation.I enjoy dancing and the self-expression it encourages. I’m passionate about ecstatic dance, having been introduced to the scene in Toronto by family. I connect to dance through music; as a cellist/bassist and vocalist, I often am compelled to move while I play and sing. I have technical training in ballroom and can appreciate all forms of dance in a different way because of it. I love watching dance and have a keen and critical eye. I am excited to help open up the Kelowna and Central Okanagan audience to dance and dance outreach.Anya Saugstad (she/her) trained at ArtsUmbrella, and holds a BFA with honours in Dance from Simon Fraser University. Anya has danced with Inverso Productions under the direction of Lesley Telford, for works by Rob Kitsos, and has been choreographing live and digital performance works in Vancouver BC over the past four years. Using dance, sound, light, and stage design, she is interested in sharing stories of the untamed self, and creates intimate worlds on stage and in public which ask questions about who we are as human beings. Anya has choreographed works for Simon Fraser University, Youth In Motion (Shadbolt Arts Centre), Bloom (Mascall Dance), Vines Art Festival, SplitScreen (Boombox), F-O-R-M Film Festival and Mount Pleasant Film Collective. My name is Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde, I am a Kanienke’haka woman from Kahnawake. For the past 13 years I have been a grateful, active and contributing guest on Lekwungen territory, Victoria, BC. I hold a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in the Indigenous Communities Counseling Psychology Program from the University of Victoria. I am currently enrolled in a PHD in Applied Theatre at UVIC. My areas of research are Contemporary and Traditional First Nations visual art, Indigenous performance practices, expressive arts therapy examining decolonial methodologies in art. My artistic practice focuses on Indigenous theatre, land-based/site-specific performance art, collaborative practice, cultural resurgence an social/political activism through the arts. My artistic media include land- based photography, performance/theatre, movement/dance and visual studio arts. I held the position as the first Indigenous Artist in Residence for the City of Victoria 2017-2019. Co- facilitator for the collaboration project Achord. Visionary/Facilitator for both Indigenous Symposiums,Performance as Medicine, Making as Medicine. Visionary/Producer/Co-facilitator/Community engagement for both Indigenous showcases Pendulum &amp; Supernova, at the BelfryTheatre, Founder &amp; Artistic director for the Visible Bodies Collective. Dance residency recipient at Dance Victoria. Director for the film Mother: embodying MotherEarth teachings through land-based performance, Co- founder and Artistic Director for the Culture Den Society. Marie Lopes is an arts educator and administrator with over 30 years of experience working in art galleries, arts organizations, and in local government. Her work centres on developing exhibitions and public programs, and supporting artists’ projects that facilitate engagement and public discourse in the arts. Following graduate studies at Wayne State University, she worked as the Curator of Education at the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Edmonton Art Gallery and the Burnaby Art Gallery. From 2001 - 2008 she held positions at the Vancouver Art Gallery, first as Public Programs coordinator and later as Head of Public Programs. At the Vancouver Park Board since 2009, Marie is currently as the Coordinator of the Park Board Arts Team. She supervises a citywide team that connects professional artists and community to create, present and experience art together. They organize and support artist in residence projects and cultural initiatives in community centres, parks and facilities – from dance productions in swimming pools to weaving projects in parks. This work supports the Park Board Arts Policy mandate to integrate the arts into everyday life in Vancouver, build creative capacity in community and support spaces for artists and community to connect. Kay Slater is a multidisciplinary artist, accessibility consultant and arts worker. As a consultant, they work directly with artists and organizations to build accessibility in at the planning stage, and to incorporate sustainable, grass roots strategies that support evolution in artistic presentation. Their work is rooted in anti-oppression practices, and they employ open source and community-engaged approaches to support ongoing knowledge transfer with makers and creators at all stages of their careers. They are a member of the Open Access Mapping project’s Advisory Committee, are a proud volunteer and social coordinator at Queer ASL, have completed the Rick Hansen Foundation’s Accessibility Certification program and are working towards CSA Accessibility certification later this year. Kay is passionate about sharing knowledge with the wider arts community. Kay is queer and hard of hearing. They use They/Their/Theirs pronouns exclusively online.Christie Watson graduated from theatre school in 2001 and has played many roles within the cultural arena. In 2003 he received a professional development grant from Theatre Ontario and has since been involved in an organizational capacity with GCTC, The NAC, The Chop, Radix, Alley Theatre, Vancouver Moving Theatre and Caravan Farm Theatre. In 2010 Christie took over leadership of the Dharmalab (now called WhatLab), in independent creative space for artistic and spiritual practices. Christie founded Holding Space Productions in 2014 and was the producer for TBD: Liberation Through Hearing (RADIX), Sonic Elder (The Chop), Children of God (Urban Ink), Sal Capone (Boldskool Productions), Motherload (Motherload Collective) and The Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards 2016, 2017 and 2018.Christie is particularly interested in interdisciplinary work and fostering collaboration. Whether working at the National Arts Centre, a basement or out in a field, Christie takes a grass roots, person first approach to producing and aims to situate work in locations that best suit the needs of the artists. For Christie, performance begins the moment people arrive and that the quality of what we share is the result of the quality of our process. Christie believes that relationships are our most valuable asset, that arts and culture are at the core of healthy communities and that limitations can support creativity. Christie’s wide range of experience has helped him continue to steadily produce work over the past year and his openness to what and where a show can be has supported the development or transformation of dozens of projects. Christie is currently the Managing Director for Rumble (rumble.org) and the BOard Chair of C-Space which runs Progress Lab 1422. Heather Lamoureux: I am a community organizer, artist, and facilitator living on Musqueam, Squamish and Tsliel-Waututh territories. I am the Artistic Director at Vines, and have grown with the festival since it’s beginning over the past seven years. I am so grateful to have been learning with the community of artists who percolate the work we do. I am committed to my responsibility to imagine and co-create nurturing creative spaces for artists. Outside of Vines I utilize my Somatic Education training from Tamalpa Institute to facilitate movement and expressive arts classes. In the past I have worked for Raven Spirit Dance, PuSh International Arts Festival, Dancing on the Edge and the Firehall. I love to garden at Harmony garden, X̱wemelch’stn pen̓em̓áy, hang out by a river and eat good food with community.
