This event is designed for children ages 3–7 with a parent or caregiver present.

Does my child need art experience?

Not at all. This experience is open-ended and designed for all skill levels.

Is this a step-by-step art class?

No. Children are encouraged to explore materials freely and create at their own pace through process-based activities.

Do parents stay during the event?

Yes. This is a caregiver-and-child experience, and parents or caregivers are required to stay for the duration of the event.

Will children bring artwork home?

Yes. Children will take home both their artwork and a copy of the book.

How long is the event?

Each session runs for approximately 1.5 hours.

Some activities may involve paint and sensory materials, so we recommend wearing clothes that can get a little messy.

Yes. Spaces are limited to keep the experience calm, creative, and welcoming for families.

Looking for a unique kids activity in Edmonton this summer?

Join us at Make Art Studio for Parsa’s Pithas: Read & Create, a playful storytelling and art experience for children ages 3–7 and their caregivers.

This interactive family event includes a live reading of Parsa’s Pithas by Edmonton author Sumaiya Matin, followed by open-ended, process-based art activities inspired by the story, Bengali culture, creativity, spring, clouds, and imaginative play.

Each participant will also receive:

The book Parsa’s Pithas to take home
Their own artwork and creations made during the event

About the Book
A delightful and empowering story about a seven-year-old Bengali girl who finds her creative superpowers while practicing the folk art of traditional pitha-making with her mother.

About the Author
Sumaiya Matin is a writer, social worker, and early childhood educator who dabbles in various forms of storytelling. Picture books hold a special place in her heart, and her stories reflect the joy of childhood while supporting socioemotional and cultural learning. She is based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta).
