Looking for a unique kids activity in Edmonton this summer?

Join us at Make Art Studio for Parsa’s Pithas: Read & Create, a playful storytelling and art experience for children ages 3–7 and their caregivers.

This interactive family event includes a live reading of Parsa’s Pithas by Edmonton author Sumaiya Matin, followed by open-ended, process-based art activities inspired by the story, Bengali culture, creativity, spring, clouds, and imaginative play.

Each participant will also receive:

  • The book Parsa’s Pithas to take home
  • Their own artwork and creations made during the event

About the Book
A delightful and empowering story about a seven-year-old Bengali girl who finds her creative superpowers while practicing the folk art of traditional pitha-making with her mother.

About the Author
Sumaiya Matin is a writer, social worker, and early childhood educator who dabbles in various forms of storytelling. Picture books hold a special place in her heart, and her stories reflect the joy of childhood while supporting socioemotional and cultural learning. She is based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta).

Children will explore different art stations using materials such as:

Activities are designed to encourage experimentation, creativity, storytelling, and imaginative exploration.

This is not a step-by-step craft class. Children are encouraged to create freely and explore materials at their own pace.
