Peterborough Perpetrators

Since 1989, Trent Valley Archives has promoted the preservation, identification and care of archives in the Trent Valley region. We support access to archival collections, as well as the development of public regional and county or municipal archives. We encourage businesses and organizations to archive pertinent records, and help individuals to care for their documents. Moreover, since 1998, we have maintained an archival repository with a collections mandate to accept original and copied archival documents relating to the Trent Valley. At present, we have about 1000 cubic feet of documents relating to people, events and places connected with the Trent Valley.

Confederation Park

Join true crime enthusiast and historian Maddie More as she tells you about the robberies, murders, and other crimes that captivated the attention of the Peterborough comminity in the 19th and 20th centuries. A popular walking tour for two years running, Peterborough Perpetrators will take you through the streets of downtown Peterborough where you'll learn about the fatal shooting of hotel owner Murray Green in the 1970s, a scheme devised by two bored photographers to counterfeit money in the 1890s, and career criminal John Parks' notorious escape from the Peterborough jail in the 1920s. This is a walking tour that covers several blocks in the downtown core. The tour sticks to the main sidewalks and is on primarily flat ground, but may not be accessible to everyone. Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, as the tour will run rain or shine. Please note that this tour covers difficult and sensitive material and may not be appropriate for everyone. The tour begins in front of the cenotaph in Confederation Park. Please come 5-10 minutes before the start of the tour with either a printout or screenshot of your ticket to show the tour guide.
