PICKNEY ARTS PROGRAM - YOUNG ARTISTS - Pilot Project
The Pickney Arts Program introduces children to the elements of art while positioning creativity as a way to communicate, learn, and heal.
Pilot Project: Pickney Arts Program at Art Gallery Hamilton (AGH) Saturday, May 23 to June 13, 2026 in partnership with Jamaica Foundation Hamilton Ages 7 and up.
This program draws from visual research and arts-based education practices that demonstrate how drawing, mixed media, and visual storytelling foster agency, dialogue, and imagination, particularly for children whose voices are often marginalized in institutional settings. Creating space for artistic dialogue both within and outside of school, supports children’s wellbeing while strengthening community connection.
By situating the program in a public art gallery, children and families gain access to a cultural institution that affirms creativity, belonging, and visibility. The gallery becomes not only a site for viewing art, but a welcoming space where children and families actively participate in creative art, learning, and belonging.
Celebrate culture, share stories and build meaning skills. We also invite children to join us in July 13 to 17, 2026 for a one-week Afro-Caribbean Cultural Summer Day Camp, offering an immersive cultural experience that is arts-based.
