Hamilton's Readers and Writers Festival was launched in 2004. Since then, gritLIT has brought over 400 of the best writers in Canada to Hamilton for readings, writing workshops, panel discussions, interviews and events for youth and children.

Metrophobia, or fear of poetry, is a surprisingly-common affliction, yet poetry predates written text as a form of communication. Poets Linda Frank, Shane Neilson, Hana Shafi and Adam Sol read from their own work and discuss how they approach reading a poem and why readers should not be intimidated by poetry – an art form that is central to human expression.
