Practice Before Practice: Panel and Opening Reception
When the next generation enters practice early
Join us to celebrate the opening of Practice Before Practice and an evening of conversation, ideas, and connection.
- 5:00 pm panel discussion (45 min + 15 min Q&A)
- 6:00–9:00 pm opening reception
Light snacks, alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages will be served during the reception portion of the evening.
About the Exhibition
This exhibition presents a live development model in which emerging designers contribute to real-world building outcomes prior to entering the profession.Through a collaboration between Toronto Metropolitan University’s fourth-year interior design cohort, Mason Studio, and HOEM , academic proposals were developed, refined, and advanced toward implementation within an active student housing project.
Rather than positioning education and practice as sequential stages, the initiative treats them as overlapping systems. The result is a distributed authorship model that generates fresh cultural thinking for developers, meaningful authorship for emerging designers, and new forms of collaboration across sectors.
This exhibition documents not a student showcase, but a working prototype: a replicable framework for integrating talent, experimentation, and real estate development at the earliest stage of professional formation.
Outside of the panel and opening reception, the event is open to the public from:
- March 26 through April 16, 2026
- Only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 10am-4pm
