Get a step ahead in the application process by completing the Alberta Police Cognitive Abilities Test (APCAT) and the Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (APREP).

This event is intended for those who wish to submit their application within four (4) months of the testing date and who currently meet all our minimum requirements as outlined on the CPS website. This is due to APREP only being valid for six (6) months.

Only attendees that are successful at the APCAT (morning) will be invited to participate in the APREP (afternoon).

Registration is required. Anyone who is not on the attendance sheet will not be permitted to attend. Additionally, if you are unable to attend, you must cancel your registration through Eventbrite. No showing for an event will impact your ability to attend future CPS events.

Please do not register if you are currently have valid APCAT results, are in an active deferral at APCAT or APREP or you do not feel confident with your current fitness level. If you have any questions please contact cpsrecruiting@calgarypolice.ca.

APCAT

The APCAT is a mandatory, job-related written examination. This exam is a provincial standard; results are valid for five years and transferrable to all municipal police agencies in the province. This is considered an official attempt and not a practice or workshop.

The APCAT consists of 120 multiple choice questions and applicants must achieve a score of 70 per cent to pass (84/120). The exam is approximately three hours in duration.

APREP

The APREP is a mandatory, job-related physical examination. This exam is a provincial standard; results are valid for six months and transferrable to all municipal police agencies in the province. This is considered an official attempt and not a practice or orientation.

The APREP has two elements:

  • A simulated critical incident consisting a foot chase where a police officer pursues, apprehends and controls a resisting suspect (Pursuit/Restraint Circuit or PRC). PRC must be completed in 2 minutes 10 seconds, or less.
  • Assessment of aerobic capacity (Leger 20m multi-stage shuttle run). Level 7 is required on the Leger.
