This pilot training program is specifically designed to address the unique barriers faced by female candidates and to meaningfully support participants with foundational skills to build a successful campaign. We believe our government and elected officials need to reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.Join us as we launch Prepare Her, welcome our first cohort, meet fellow supporters, network with like-minded individuals, and current and former politicians. Event Agenda6:00 -6:30 - Doors open and networking6:30 - 6:50 - Welcome followed by Greetings by Her Honour, the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell, CM, AOE, LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta6:50 - 7:00 - About Prepare Her 7:00-7:45 - A power panel with former politicians and political candidates: Elder Ruth Scalp Lock, former Band Councillor at Siksika Nation for 18 years; Nirmala Naidoo, former Liberal candidate in Calgary Skyview and a former CBC and Global reporter and anchor; and Melissa Mathieson, Chair of Equal Voice Alberta South and former Conservative Party candidate. The Panel is moderated by Lisa Young, Director of Graduate Programs at the School of Public Policy for the University of Calgary.7:45-7:55 - Poetry and music by Ghada Al-Atrash, Women and Gender Studies at MRU and former Liberal Party Candidate 8:10 - Program ends, networking until 9:00 pmEvent Accessibility Please note that this is a child-friendly event. Ask Her has arranged for an external childminding service to be present. If you require chid care, please let us know by March 5. There is free parking available at the venue and on the street.
