An online event to launch PressProgress' new explainer columnists feat. special guest Judd Legum, Editor of Popular Information.

Starting this month, PressProgress will publish weekly explainer columns that aim to unpack the news and explain the big issues of the day in a way that is accessible and relatable to everyday audiences.Explanatory journalism is an emerging genre of journalism focused on answering the important "how" and "why" questions that don't get typically get explored in traditional reporting. It's also distinct from opinion writing that expresses strong points-of-view, offers "hot takes" or tells readers what to think. Alongside PressProgress' day-to-day news and analysis, each column will focus on exploring five topics:<ul><li>Power and democracy</li><li>Hate and human rights</li><li>Politics and strategy</li><li>Health and profits</li><li>Work and rights</li></ul>To launch the new explanatory columnist section, PressProgress will be hosting a live Zoom launch event on February 24 at 5:00 PM EST.The PressProgress team will introduce our first cohort of columnists and explain the concept behind this exciting new addition to our award-winning journalism.The event will also feature special guest Judd Legum, founder of the widely read, Washington D.C. based newsletter Popular Information in conversation with PressProgress editor Luke LeBrun.
