"Python Basics" Thursday Workshop

The Shack Student Group

In this workshop provided by The Shack, participants will write a calculator program in Python.  In the first hour and a half we'll learn console output and input, if/elif/else ladders, variables, and data type conversion. We'll take a break at 5:15, then at 5:30 briefly cover looping, methods/functions, references, and recursion.

During the workshop we'll use a browser-based IDE, Jupyter ( https://cybera.syzygy.ca/ ) to compile and run our python code. You can sign in with your ualberta google account, so after the workshop's done you can sign in again and recover all the code you wrote during the workshop.
If you can bring a laptop to work with, please do! If you can't, please let us know as there's limited laptops and computers available in the shack.

If you're bringing your own laptop and would prefer an installed IDE, there's two options I'd recommend. If you're relatively new to programming, Thonny( https://thonny.org/ ) is simple and easy. If you've got experience with programming and want more features in your IDE, Anaconda ( https://www.anaconda.com/download/ ) is what the Physics department uses.
