This one person show, workshopped with Pat the Dog Theatre Creation is a compilation of stories about growing up as a second generation queer spawn (lesbian born of lesbians).  
“The piece strives to normalize my parents and I while acknowledging the differences (and homophobic) truths in our experience as a family.  Queer Spawn is about claiming space that is too often taken up by the nuclear family and showcasing how great my moms are.  With this piece, I hope to normalize my family while highlighting the micro-aggressions I hear in everyday conversation.”
Kira is a queer feminist theatre artist whose work is focused on LGBTQ++ voices. She is a recent graduate from the joint Theatre & Drama Studies program from University of Toronto and Sheridan College. Come Fall 2019, she is pursuing her Doctorate in Theatre & Performance Studies at York University. She is also an alumna of The Women’s Room which is an all-female playwriting unit (Sounderlust & Pat the Dog Theatre Creation).

There will be other activities happening, such as drawing pictures of our families and sharing them with each other.

On Telling Your Story: The process for creating Queer Spawn has been a highly personal one between Kira and her dramaturg Lisa. Telling one’s own story is always a deeply intimate exploration.  Following each Concert Performance of the play, Kira and Lisa will lead the audience in an open and animated discussion of their process.  They invite the audience to share in this discussion with their questions, concerns and curiosity on how best to tell their own story.
