Event description

Description

Every year, the Intercultural Dialogue Institute GTA hosts a series of community Iftar (fast-breaking) dinners during the month of Ramadan. Iftar dinners bring together people of various faith and ethno-cultural backgrounds and serve as a means of fostering dialogue and cross-cultural awareness. They address various topics related to common teachings and values in different faith traditions and cultures. A centrepiece of the event is a panel discussion or a keynote by those with relevant expertise with regards to pressing/relevant matter of discourse.

Invited Guests: Civic and community leaders, York Region employees/administrators, public and Catholic board educators/administrators, faith leaders, professionals from different human services sectors (e.g. child welfare, children mental health, public health, etc.) as well as foster parents and their families and community members/families.

Organizer York Region Children's Aid Society

Organizer of RAMADAN IFTAR (FAST BREAKING) DINNER

We work to keep children safe and families together by:

  • Providing child protection services 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Engaging and supporting families at-risk in problem solving
  • Linking families with essential community services to ensure the best possible outcomes for families
  • Providing prevention and awareness programs to keep children safe and families strong

It is our goal, whenever possible, to maintain a child in the home or with extended family, but if this is not possible, children are placed in safe, nurturing environments, including foster homes.
