Sea to Sky Dance Collective

A dance production featuring the Sea to Sky Dance Collective, benefiting CAMPS (Community Access Music Project Society)

Through contemporary dance, live music, and multimedia projections, RHYTHMS will take the audience on a journey exploring rhythms in music, in the body and in nature.The Sea to Sky Dance Collective will perform alongside award-winning Blue Mountain Beatbox and special musical guests: Amir Fishman (drums), Barb Cook (violin) and Sandra Ashmore (oboe).The dancers and musicians will be performing in front of captivating multi-media projections, enhanced with complementary lighting and intertwined with beautiful sound designed by technician Brian Marchant.Proceeds from RHYTHMS will be donated to CAMPS (Community Access Music Project Society ), a local organization that offers full and partial bursaries to anyone who is a resident of the Sea to Sky Corridor and would like to participate in music lessons or music therapy sessions. CAMPS strives to make music education accessible for everyone in the Sea to Sky, regardless of social or economic circumstance or barriers.

In the lobby:Before and after the show , as well as during intermission in the lobby, you will have a chance to enjoy light snacks and drinks from Tim Hortons available by donation (cash only). You will also be able to learn more about the Sea to Sky Dance Collective, CAMPS and Blue Mountain beatbox. Blue Mountain Beatbox is a globally acclaimed acapella duo, having captivated audiences worldwide. Emerging as the 11th place winners at the prestigious Grand Beatbox Battle in 2021 in Warsaw, Poland, their innovative style and ingenious vocal techniques breathe new life into the realm of vocal music. Blending elements of R&amp;B, hip hop, jazz, and Latin music, their original groovy compositions showcase a mastery of the human voice.Sandra Ashmore is an aspiring musician and currently accepted into Vancouver Community College for a BA in music and is so honored to be part of this project with Sea to Sky Dance Collective. She has been playing oboe non- consecutively since she was 13 and has performed with the North Shore lite opera house, Sea to Sky Singers, and Howe Sound Performing Arts classical music collaboration.Barb Cooke started her journey with the violin in grade school. She studied and played in local orchestras into her university years before a career and raising a family took hold and the violin became a distant memory. Fast forward many years and the joy of playing music is back in her life. Barb reacquainted herself with the violin and has enjoyed playing and performing with the Sea to Sky String Orchestra since 2014. Barb enjoys the process of collaborating, creating, and performing music with various community ensembles.Amir Fishman began playing the drums in Grade 6 when his school's music teacher had the students pick an instrument and Amir wanted to emulate his favourite Muppet character - Animal. Since then, he's been a part of orchestral bands, jazz bands, rock bands, and countless jam sessions. In university, he was part of an acoustic trio called The Good Acoustics aptly named because they spent a lot of their time seeking out places around campus with excellent sound quality, and putting on shows for the sole purpose of bringing joy to others. After university, this trio started putting on flash-mob-style concerts while riding the Toronto subway cars during rush hour. Their opening pitch was always, "Hello everyone, this is a #TrainReaction. We're not here for money; we're here for smiles. We're here because riding the subway sucks, and hopefully a little music might make it better." This led to endless unforseen great moments, like strangers dancing and singing together, random musicians busting out their instruments and joining our impromptu band, and countless people choosing to miss their stops to continue being in on the fun. Music has always been an integral part of Amir's life, and it's one of the things that always brings him joy.When he's not tapping his feet or strumming some chords, Amir works as the Director of Outdoor Education for a school in West Vancouver. He also spends a lot of his free time doing the things that many of us living and loving Squamish do: climbing, hiking, skiing, boarding, paddling, and being blown away every day that he gets to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
