When is it happening?

It takes place on Saturdays from June 14th to October 11th, with additional events on Sunday, July 20th, and Sunday, August 10th.

How does it work?

Once registered, each participant must complete a waiver onsite in advance of getting in the canoe. Upon arrival at Runway Rivers, staff will provide a canoe designed to glide along painted "river paths" on the runway. While seated, a companion can guide you through the site.

How active is the experience?

Runway Rivers is as active as you want it to be.  Visitors can push each other in canoes across the full runway space so some strength is required.  Or visitors can walk around the site and view others engaging with the canoes.

What is the capacity per timeslot?

Our fleet includes 20 standard canoes, each accommodating up to four people inside the canoe (plus up to two people pushing the canoe, and two accessible canoes designed for enhanced accessibility).

How many people fit in each canoe? (Number of people per ‘ticket slot’)

Each 16-ft canoe holds up to four people with a 650 lb capacity. Any mix of adults and children is allowed. Ticketed participants can take turns and don’t need to ride together.

What is the age recommendation? Can I bring my child?

Runway Rivers is appropriate for all ages.  Children are welcome.  The individual who pushes the canoe needs to have the strength and ability to do so.

How do I get there via TTC?

From Wilson Station, take the 184 bus to Gilley Road at Garratt Blvd. and walk north 260m to YZD Experience Centre, following signs to Runway Rivers. Alternatively, from Wilson Station,  take the 96 or 165 bus to Garratt Blvd. and walk north 750m to the YZD Experience Centre.

What if I arrive late?

Your place will be reserved for 10 minutes past your scheduled time after which the canoe will be offered to someone else.

Is food and beverage available on-site?

The YZD Farmers Market will be open from 11-4 and feature a variety of vendors for food and beverages. The YZD Farmers Market is located directly beside the entrance to Runway Rivers.

Is it accessible?

Accepted Answer

Two of the canoes are accessible, with access via a ramp. The canoes have been tested with a standard 18" manual wheelchair, which fits and turns comfortably within the canoe. Detailed measurements of both the canoes and the ramp will be made available soon.

Participants are asked to observe our safety rules including avoiding standing in the canoe while it is in motion and engaging in dangerous use of the canoes (hitting other objects etc.).
