FREE COURSE provided by the Wetzin&#x27;kwa Community Forest Corporation for local residents!Registration opens 9:00AM May 08, 2023. Only 10 spots available - first come, first served.S100 Basic Wildfire Suppression course (16 hour).IMPORTANT: DATE CHANGEDFriday June 9th 8:00AM-4:30PM(classroom)Saturday June 10th 8:00AM-4:30PM (field)This two-day fire course consists of one day of in-classroom training followed by one day of hands-on practicum training. In the classroom portion, participants will learn about wildfire behaviours and how environmental factors such as weather, forest fuels and topography can affect the spread of a fire. Participants will learn the fundamentals of safely fighting forest fires, including suppression tactics, fireline organization, communication and incident command, and how to manage personal safety in and around wildfires. In the field portion, trainees learn and practice fire suppression techniques using hand tools, hoses and pumps.This certification is the minimum level of certification required to fight forest fires in BC.No previous wildifre or field experience necessary but basic fitness (ie. ability to use hand tools, carry firefighting equipment across short distances, hike on uneven terrain) is required.Must provide own transportation to/from BV Nordic Centre, packed lunch/snacks for both days, and basic field gear required for field portion (long sleeves/pants, sturdy boots, rain gear).If you do not have your own transportation Wetzin&#x27;kwa Community Forest may be able to provide it.
