Event description
Find out how the 'School Streets' initiative improves student safety and well-being by creating a car-free zone in front of schools.

About this Event

Green Communities Canada presents the School Streets webinar, featuring presentations from 8 80 Cities and Hackney Borough Council (U.K.).

School Streets is the practice of creating a temporary pedestrian and cycles only zone in front of a school for the busy arrival and departures times each day. During those periods, no motor vehicles are allowed to enter the School Street zone.

This helps to ensure the trip to and from school is safer, and healthier, by reducing traffic congestion, air pollution, and road danger; creating a liveable community that encourages active school travel.

Watch this school streets video.

The School Streets initiative is a growing trend across cities in Europe, following the successful School Streets program in the London Borough of Hackney, U.K. and has recently been piloted in Toronto, Canada by 8 80 Cities.
