Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers is a not for profit organization and a registered charity, dedicated to contemporary dance.  The company creates, produces, presents, teaches, and promotes contemporary dance with a view to advance the art form for professional artists and audiences alike.Founded by Rachel Browne, the company was initiated in 1964,  and is Canada’s oldest, and longest running, contemporary dance company.

<h2><em>Serpentine</em></h2><h3>Created by Daina Ashbee</h3><h3>Preview performance November 24 at 7:30pm</h3><p></p><p>WCD is thrilled to introduce Daina Ashbee to Winnipeg audiences! An award-winning Métis/Dutch Canadian artist, Ashbee’s work has been presented to international acclaim in 15 countries and over 35 different cities. Her works have been performed at some of the most prestigious festivals, including The Venice Biennale - and on the world stage (Canada, France, Spain, Belgium, Norway, Finland, Greenland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Mexico). Serpentine is an installation performance, set to an original composition by Jean-Francois Blouin and features a unique and intimate audience experience with seating right on stage, up close and personal. </p><p><strong>Advisories: </strong>Full nudity, mature content, no explicit sexuality. The work carries many heavy symbols and images. Although the work is deliberately abstract, some audiences have been personally triggered by the intense and visceral experience. </p>
