SES Lecture—Using Python in Engineering

The Saskatoon Engineering Society (SES) has a mandate to advance the engineering profession and related societies by assisting in information exchange between Society members and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) Council by acting as a local agent and focal point to promote matters pertaining to the education and awareness of the profession.

Python is one of the most popular scripting languages, and has many uses and applications in engineering.

Python has become one of the world's most popular programming languages. It is powerful, flexible, and extremely easy to learn, and has become a favourite for professionals across many disciplines.However, in many areas of engineering these tools are not used as often. In this workshop, we will explore some of the applications for Python in traditional engineering. Also, the benefits of these will be discussed.This workshop is intended to build upon the Introduction to Python workshop held in Engineering Month. While some prior programming experience (especially with Python) will be beneficial, it will not strictly be required. This workshop should qualify for 1.5 CPD Credits for Formal Activity. A certificate of attendance will be provided.Premium Admission is for Premium Members.

Juniper Willard has a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Calgary, and has been designing hardware and software for over twenty years.With experience in a number of different industries he has written software ranging from web-based enterprise to controlling and modelling large magnetic fields. Currently, he designs control systems for particle accelerators and scientific experimentation.
