About this Event

Welcome to SFU's Changemaker Academy!

Are you a 1st or 2nd year SFU student ready to develop and expand your changemaking skills? Register for this free half-day workshop and networking event to hear from SFU alumni and upper-year changemakers, engage with social innovation and changemaking focused student clubs, and learn firsthand from experts in the field the skills and tools necessary to kick-start your changemaker journey at SFU!

Why should you attend the event?

  • Build meaningful connections with like-minded students from various faculties
  • Learn how to creatively tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges that you’re passionate about
  • Hear from SFU students and alumni on how they got involved and are making a difference on campus and beyond

Event Rundown:

  • Opening and Keynote Speech by Paola Ardiles Faculty of Health Sciences Teaching Fellow and Lecturer, Social Innovation and Community Partnerships
  • Student and Alumni Panel Session with panelists Jao Dantes (Alumni - Communications), Giovanni HoSang (Student - Computer Science). Shina Kaur (Student - Psychology). Stephanie Lam (Student - Health Sciences, John Nguyen (Alumni - Beedie Business). Rochelle Prasad (Student - Political Sciences
  • Networking Session (light refreshments will be provided)
  • Workshop - Participants can pre-register for one of following three workshops on the registering for the event

  2. Passion to Purpose
  3. Complexity in 3D - Building to Learn
  • Closing

Definition:

Changemaker: "Someone taking creative, concrete action to help solve social, economic and environmental problems.”

Changemaking: Effective organizational or societal change. In the context of higher education, it includes the following:

  • Social entrepreneurship
  • Social Innovation
  • Service learning
  • Civic engagement
  • Social justice
  • Philanthropy

The Changemaker Academy is co-hosted by RADIUS SFU, Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship, Coast Capital Savings Venture Connection and SFU's Student Service and is funded by SFU's Community Engaged Research Fund, Student Experience Initiative, Community Engagement Initiative and Scotiabank.

This pilot event part of SFU's commitment to #MillionsofChangemaker Campaign, a signature initiative of Ashoka U.
