SHADOWLANDS: Exhibition

Ambrose UniversityCalgary, AB
Thursday, Jan 22 at 4 pm to Saturday, May 30 at 7 pm
Overview

Presenting new paintings by Cindy Bouwers

Exhibition runs until May 30 and can be viewed anytime during Ambrose University building hours. Located on 2nd floor, Gallery@Ambrose

Shadowlands explores the meeting place between light and shadow within the natural world and within our inner lives. Through layered colour and intuitive gesture, these paintings reflect moments of uncertainty, waiting, and transition — times when clarity is not immediate, yet presence remains.

In nature, shadow offers shelter and nuance, allowing colour and form to soften and expand. In a similar way, the paintings attend to emotional and psychological landscapes where meaning often emerges gradually, through attention and patience.

The works invite the viewer to linger in the in-between — to notice passages, pauses, and places of quiet refuge. These shadowed spaces reflect inner worlds shaped by memory, emotion, and experience, where questions coexist with trust and becoming unfolds slowly.

Shadowlands offers an open terrain for reflection, suggesting that even when the path is not fully lit, light continues to move within the unknown.
