Silver Ring Carving Workshop

Create your own custom ring to be cast in silver! Hosted by Toronto goldsmith Patrycja Zwierzynska

In this&nbsp;workshop&nbsp;you’ll be using jeweller’s wax and ancient wax&nbsp;carving&nbsp;techniques to plan, carve and create the&nbsp;ring&nbsp;of your dreams to be cast in&nbsp;silver. I’ll be showing you ways to create texture and form in wax with hot and cold tools, as well as sizing and finishing your&nbsp;ring. The possibilities really are endless, bring an open mind, good attitude and a bit of patience. Once your&nbsp;ring&nbsp;has been carved in wax, it will be taken to be cast off-site in sterling&nbsp;silver. I’ll explain this off-site process in more depth during the&nbsp;workshop. &nbsp; After casting, I will professionally clean and polish the&nbsp;ring&nbsp;to your specifications (shiny, matte etc, we’ll talk), and will notify you when it’s ready to be picked up at the studio, about 2 weeks later. The&nbsp;workshop&nbsp;runs from 11am to 5pm with a short lunch break (45mins), you can bring your own lunch or pick something up in the neighborhood. The day is structured to let you have the max amount of time possible to realize your design, it seems long but once you get into it may not. Your spot will be fully booked once I receive payment. I’ll require 48 hours notice for cancellations. You can bring a sketch, an inspiration image or idea of what you think you’d like to make but you don’t have to, I’ll help you figure it out either way. An enduring interest in the arts and a desire to make things led her to pursue an education at NSCAD University, where she was first introduced to metalworking. She graduated in 2007 with a BFA in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing. Upon graduating she completed three years at the Artist-in-Residency program in the metal studio at the Harbourfront Centre. She was one of the founding members of Studio HUDDLE, a co-operative, artist run studio and gallery space in Toronto. She currently works at Hideaway Studios, a multi-functional artist run space in Toronto’s west end. Her work examines the boundaries and definitions of jewellery, with a focus on strong craftsmanship and innovation in design and process. Her pieces have been exhibited throughout Canada as well as internationally.
