Description

A partial solar eclipse will be viewable from Montreal on 21st August!

AstroMcGill will hold an eclipse will hold an eclipse-watching party on the Lower Field of the McGill Campus. We will have special solar telescopes available to observe the sun, free eclipse glasses as well as a live stream of the total eclipse.

Volunteers will also be on hand to explain the science behind the eclipse, answer questions and lead hands-on activities related to the Sun, Moon and Earth.

The event is free and open to everyone. Register to reserve your free AstroMcGill eclipse glasses.

FAQs

Are minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No, the event is open to everyone. Very young children may not be able to sit through the entire two and a half hour eclipse. Plan accordingly.


Do we need to register in advance for this event?

No, no advanced registration is required. However, you must register through Eventbrite to reserve your AstroMcGill eclipse glasses, and arrive by 1:30 pm on the day of the event. We cannot guarantee the availability of eclipse glasses to those who do not register.


Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you can also use a mobile ticket on your smartphone to claim your eclipse glasses.

What if it is cloudy or raining?

If it is cloudy, the event will still be held outside on the lower field on the McGill campus. If it is raining, we will have the event indoors at the McGill Fieldhouse. We will watch a live stream of the eclipse and shave hands-on activities lead by AstroMcGill volunteers.
