This in-person workshop is perfect for youth ages 8 to 18 looking to connect with their audience. Learn valuable techniques and insights from industry professional Sarah Rose to take your craft to the next level, and to get a feel for what participation would be like in the disciplines of Speech & Dramatic Arts at next year's Sea to Sky Performing Arts Festival!
As a stage director, music supervisor, and musical dramaturg, Sarah Rose has worked internationally in New York (Off-Broadway), Toronto (Playwrights Guild of Canada; Shifting Ground Collective), and Vancouver (Pacific Theatre; Vancouver Fringe). Awards include the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center Scholarship, and BroadwayWorld Vancouver Awards for Best Director (Professional) and Best Play (Professional). A faculty member in Voice at the Vancouver Academy of Music S.K. Lee College, Sarah teaches and adjudicates across pre-college, collegiate, and graduate programs. Sarah is a certified teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Institute for Vocal Advancement, and is currently a Linklater Teacher Trainee. Sarah is an alumna of the National Theater Institute (Advanced Directing) and the University of British Columbia (BA), and is an MFA Candidate in Drama at the University of Alberta.
What to Bring:
Any of the following: poetry including but not limited to: lyric, narrative, dramatic, slam or free verse, sonnet; a prose passage from a story, novel, essay or similar writing; a speech of personal choice that can be persuasive, informational, or entertaining; a selection of storytelling told in your own words that can include an original story or an adaptation of a folktale, fairy tale, myth, legend or story; a dramatic scene/monologue utillizing the words of one character only (words of other characters omitted); a literary monologue which may be comic or serious (i.e. a speech from a diary, letter, solo monologue, or writing in the first person). Don't forget to wear comfy clothing and to bring a notebook, pen/pencil, and waterbottle.

Ages 8 to 12 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Ages 13 to 18 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
