Square Dance Social

St. Barnabas Upper HallToronto, ON
Sunday, Feb 22 from 2 pm to 4 pm EST
Overview

An opportunity to engage in the most mathematical dance form ever created in the history of the Earth.

Two left feet welcome!

This is your low-stakes opportunity to try Square Dancing.Think of this as a fun experiment in group coordination and an opportunity to engage in the most mathematical dance form ever created in the history of the Earth. No partner is needed as we'll rotate throughout, so you'll dance with a few people. We have an expert Square Dance Caller who will walk us through the moves!

Why square dancing? Because it:

  • Requires zero prior experience
  • Creates order from chaos through simple, learnable patterns
  • Builds physical confidence through predictable structures
  • Is fundamentally collaborative
  • Is perfectly deterministic (until it isn't)

This is an exploration of how simple rules create complex beauty and how minds and bodies can learn to work in harmony.

Bring: Comfortable shoes, curiosity, and a willingness to surprise yourself!

Details:

  • Date: Sunday, Feb 22nd 2026
  • Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Location: St. Barnabas Upper Hall, 175 Hampton Ave, Toronto, Ontario, M4K 2Z3
  • Cost: $15
  • Clothing: Comfortable change of shoes to dance in

Do aim to be on time, as instructions at the beginning of the session build from there.

There will be light vegetarian friendly snacks at this event. Please bring a reusable water bottle (if you can) for water.

Our Caller for the event will be Marge Coahran! She started square dancing in September 2014 with the Toronto Triangle Squares. She attended her first caller school in July 2016, and she currently teaches the second level (Plus) class for Triangle Squares. Marge enjoys square dancing and calling because of the fun, the friends, and the intricate choreographic patterns. She is a member of the Toronto and District Square and Round Dance Association (T&D) and the Gay Callers Association (GCA). She was the fly-in committee chair for Triangle Squares’ annual dance weekend from 2017-2024.
