Participants will learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

What is diversity, equity and inclusion? What does it look like in the workplace and to your clients? In this workshop, using some key terminology, participants will learn more about diversity, equity, and inclusion. These half-day workshops are a professional development opportunity funded by the province of Nova Scotia department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration branch of Immigration and Population Growth branch to foster inclusive welcome communities – a great value for Pictou County. Using an unconscious bias lens, participants will also look at how language and terminology has changed and how reflection and awareness of this helps us inform and better navigate our workplaces and community. In our communities and today’s workplace, consistent and continuous education, training, and policies that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion are essential for courageous organizations.With this important work the goal of our sessions is to increase awareness and develop a better understanding of the importance of DEI in the region. Together we will learn more about Cultural Competence and Unconscious Bias and reflect on how it impacts participants personally and as leaders. Designed with a series of debriefs, the session will aim to maximize participant engagement and knowledge transfer. T﻿hese workshops will be presented by Shumba Consulting. A﻿bout Shumba: T.K. (Tinaye) (he/him) is the owner of Shumba Consulting, a small business of diversity based in Halifax Nova Scotia whose mission, with a core lens of diversity and inclusion, is to work with businesses, organizations, and groups to develop and deliver engaging and impactful workplace education and management solutions.He believes that in our communities and today's workplace, continuous education, training, and policies that focus on diversity and inclusion awareness are essential to build courageous organizations. His journey as a Diversity and Inclusion practitioner has been facilitated through successful past occupations in student/human rights advocacy, retail, finance, government, and post-secondary education. He is an External Human Rights trainer for the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and has a Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP) designation through the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion. As a Human rights advocate, educator, and lifelong learner, T.K.'s goal is to courageously facilitate both the transfer of knowledge and practice of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace and our community through collaboration.
