Overview

One-off, 3 hour workshop looking at the exciting worlds of STYLE & GENRE in improvisation.

STYLE & GENRE:
Explore the wide and wonderful world of improvised style & genre! In this one-off, 3 hour workshop we'll look at physical, verbal and narrative strategies to emulate specific styles through improvisation on stage. This class will help you connect the genres of film, television, and books you know and love, to the improv comedy we create in the moment.


Prerequisites:
*Some* improv experience recommended.

About the instructor:
Ben Gorodetsky is an improviser, director, and educator based in Kitchener, Ontario. They are curator and host of KW monthly mainstays: Pinch Cabaret and Together We're Boisterous Comedy. Ben is the former Associate Artistic Director of Rapid Fire Theatre, where he performed in the flagship TheatreSports show every friday night for seven years, and a nominee for a Canadian Comedy Award. He has performed, taught, and directed improvisation at The Magnet Theatre (NYC), Out of Bounds Comedy (Austin), UCB (LA), Highwire Comedy (Atlanta), English Lovers (Vienna), IGLU (Ljubljana), FERIIR (Reunion Island), Bad Dog (Toronto), and Blind Tiger (Vancouver). His performance work has been presented by The Art Gallery of Ontario, CAFKA, Lumen Fest, Movement Research at Judson Church, The Tank NYC, Mile Zero Dance, Brian Webb Dance Company, Expanse Festival of Movement Arts, Rubaboo Festival, Guelph Dance Festival, SpringWorks, and the Gas Station Arts Centre. They are creator and executive producer of TV series "My Pet Ate What?" for CTV/Bell Media. They teach at UWaterloo and hold an MFA from Brooklyn College-CUNY and a BFA from the University of Alberta.
