Taiko Hour

Midnight Taikois a group of performance-based taiko drummers who share their love for the art of Japanese drumming through powerful rhythms, eye catching choreography, and captivating energy. They are inspired by the rich and diverse styles of taiko ensembles in Japan and throughout the world, and aspire to musical excellence, engaging performances, and serving to promote Japanese Culture in Calgary. They offer private and public performances, and hold a variety of fun and educational workshops for anyone who wants to give Taiko a try.

TAIKO HOUR is a fun, one-hour introduction to the art of Japanese taiko drumming. Beginning with a brief introduction of its history, along with a physical warm up, the session quickly transitions to time spent playing taiko.Taiko hour is great for those who have never tried taiko and those who are excited to learn more FUNdamental taiko skills. Though an introductory session, feel free to attend as many times as you'd like as no two sessions are the same.Please sign up on Eventbrite to secure your spot in the class. No experience necessary! Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, and ring the doorbell at the front entrance to the building. There is street parking available in the area (please check signs for any parking restrictions). We also suggest that you wear comfortable clothing, and either bring indoor shoes with good grip, or go barefoot. Note: If this session of Taiko Hour fills up before you get a spot, please email midnight.taiko.workshops@gmail.com to be placed on a waiting list. We'll do our best to accommodate you if possible!
