Tangible Memories: Artifact Making

Tangible Memories: Artifact Making

Remote GalleryToronto, ON
Tuesday, May 26 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm
Overview

Learn the art of sentiment while building an artifact that represents you. This is a workshop/talk about creating physical memories :)

Learn the art of sentiment while building an artifact that represents you and your history. This is a conversation all about legacy, using objects to create physical memory, and the evidence of being in our lives.

This workshop introduces participants to the art of sentiment and how everyday objects, textures, and fragments can hold emotional meaning. Through guided reflection and hands-on creation, participants will build a small physical artifact that represents who they are or a moment that shaped them.

This is a talk about creating physical memories and includes a demonstration. It will also include an opportunity to create your own artifact. Some materials provided

Please feel free to bring personal photographs and other craft materials you feel best represent you.

About the instructor:

Sami McKay (she/her) is a mixed media artist and writer based in Toronto, Ontario.

Her work is deeply symbolic and leans on themes of curiosity and exploration, (dis)connection, and navigating the human experience.

Fixated on the abstract and strangeness of our existence, Sami looks to share the paradoxical, existential, and confusing aspects of life, death and coping with the conditions of being.

She aims to display through art and writing, the rawness, complexity and beauty of our existence
