Telescopes 101

TheH.R. MacMillan Space Centreis a non-profit community resource that provides a unique learning experience for all. Visitors can learn about space and the night sky through planetarium star theatre shows, live demonstrations, and an interactive exhibit gallery.

Curious about telescopes? Come by our observatory to learn about the different kinds of telescopes and how they work. If we have clear skies we’ll do some daytime viewing and have a look at the Sun and Moon. You’ll also learn how to use a planisphere (star chart) and we’ll share some of our favourite stargazing apps that you can use at home.

<h3>REGISTRATION:</h3>Select from one of four time slots (11:00am, 11:45am, 12:45pm or 1:30pm) to claim a spot. By registering for a time slot you are permitted to bring a group with a maximum of 5 people to the event. We will be hosting 2 groups during each time slot and it will take approximately 40 minutes to complete the activities.Tickets are by donation, with a recommended value of $10 per person in each group. This event is recommended ages 8+ .Please note:The program will take place rain or shine and you will be walking across the grass. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.Using the telescopes to view to skies is weather dependent as overcast skies limit visibility.This is a family program – children must be accompanied by adults.Activities will begin promptly at their scheduled times. Please arrive early to allow time for check-in.
