Temari Workshop - Sakura

Nikkei Centre is a multi-use facility at the corner of Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby, BC. Officially opened on September 22, 2000, the Centre houses a Japanese Canadian cultural centre, the Nikkei National Museum, a community centre serving the neighbourhood, and a Japanese Canadian garden.

What is Temari?Temari (手まり）is a folk craft originating from Japan around 1300 years ago. Traditionally made in the form of "hand balls" given from parents to children on New Year's day. They've become a popular and versatile gift item while remaining a refreshing toy for children to play with.

About the InstructorAsami Kusakabe:日本てまりの会 師範 (Shihan) Master, Japan Temari AssociationAsami is a skilled artist specializing in temari balls and realistic portraiture. A self-taught craftswoman, she has earned the esteemed title of Shihan (Master Instructor) from the Japan Temari Association (JTA).
