THE MASTERMIND at 4PM

As a non-profit cultural organization, Kelowna Film Society has applied for and been granted an exemption under section 4 of the Motion Picture Act. This exemption allows us to screen films which have not yet been classified by Consumer Protection BC.  Kelowna Film Society is responsible for operating in compliance with the Motion Picture Act and Consumer Protection BC. To attend a Kelowna Film Society film screening (which may not have been classified by Consumer Protection BC), you must be a Kelowna Film Society member.  Your membership is included in the ticket price.The Kelowna Film Society’s past seasons of great cinema have drawn local film fanciers since 2007.  The prestigious Toronto International Film Festival has been the society’s main source of powerful releases from the world of cinema, including foreign language offerings, Canadian films, hard-to-find independent films, quality documentaries, as well as crowd-pleasing comedies, dramas and the occasional block-buster. Helped by many loyal volunteers, the staff of the Orchard Plaza Cineplex, 1876 Cooper Road, Kelowna, and the financial support of discriminating and loyal patrons, the society has supported local film students and film makers with grants, bursaries and other assistance totalling more than $30,000.

THE MASTERMINDWednesday January 28 at 4:00 and at 7:00 pmEnglishUSA/UKOne hour and 50 minutesA heist movie with an ironic title- it’s really a character study of JB Mooney (Josh O’Connor) an unemployed carpenter and aimless soul who develops a secret life as an art thief.JB hatches a plan to steal four paintings from a local museum. But JB and his fellow small time crooks leave so many clues that soon he’s forced to live life on the run.Set in the 1970s, news keeps appearing about the ongoing Vietnam War. The contrast between images of anti-war protestors and demonstrations for a more just world become a counterpoint to the narcissistic character of JB who shows no sympathy for any cause other than himself.A film full of texture and layers, and with a great jazz score, it suggests the notion of poetic justice. You can’t run forever. Or can you?
