On October 10, St. Andrew’s-Wesley Church in Vancouver becomes a space where sound, silence, and perception intertwine in The Observer Effect. Performed by JUNO and WCMA award-winning violinist, violist, and composer Meredith Bates, her work traces the subtle ways our presence shapes what we encounter and what, in turn, transforms us. Woven from composed passages and moments of spontaneous creation, the music unfolds like shifting light, revealing new textures with every listening. Within the church’s luminous acoustics, each note resonates as both question and invitation. The Observer Effect is an evening of immersive music that blurs the boundary between witness and participant, leaving listeners changed by the act of listening itself.
