It seems like we live in a world where genuine love is an endangered species. What most understand as love, is temporary, or at best lasts a lifetime, no more.
Even amongst those who seek love, seek to give love, often it is very mysterious how this love can be manifested in ever-more increasing ways.
Rupa Goswami, the 16th century Bhakti saint and scholar, among his thousands of works, produced a tiny compilation of verses called Upadeshamrita, or the Nectar of Instruction. In this book, he talks about many wonderful concepts, but one key is love, how love is manifested.
dadāti pratigṛhṇāti guhyam ākhyāti pṛcchati bhuṅkte bhojayate caiva ṣaḍ-vidhaṁ prīti-lakṣaṇam
Offering gifts in charity, accepting charitable gifts, revealing one’s mind in conﬁdence, inquiring conﬁdentially, accepting prasāda and offering prasāda are the six symptoms of love shared by one devotee and another. NOI 4
