The trickster

Location TBD
Saturday, Feb 21 from 11 am to 1 pm EST
Overview

The trickster transgresses boundaries and breaks rules, thus allowing change to come.

The trickster
An online presentation by Artemis Papert

According to an African legend, humans recieved the gift of storytelling thanks to the spider Anansi who tricked the god Nyame and stole stories from him.

Jung wrote that the trickster is a source of amusement. This is definitely true in many of the Winnebago Trickster Cycle stories.

The trickster is a lot of opposing things. As the French would say he is "everything and its opposite" (tout et son contraire). He is a creator and a destroyer. He is benevolent or is malevolent. The trickster is a shape shifter. One moment he goes around as a god, at another moment he presents as an animal or even as a human. The trickster creates and the trickster destroys. He breaks boundaries and breaks rules. And as such he brings change.

In this presentation we will look at several trickster stories from fairy tales and myhtology.
