Innovation Boost Zone (IBZ) is an early-stage tech incubator, which is part of the Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship as well as the Ryerson Zone Learning network.Our aim is to nurture the entrepreneurial mindset, expose real problems and guide individuals to better solutions in their pursuit of venture creation.We provide early-stage startups with a community of like-minded people, programming, advising, mentorship, access to co-working space and funding.

A series of workshops targeted at early stage founders that will provide them with the tools and insight into conducting validation

Join us for The Workshop Series, a series of four workshops focused on giving early stage founders the opportunity to learn the ropes on how to validate their business idea and launch it successfully. The four sessions that will be covered are:<ul><li>Start-up Culture - Gain a better understanding of the mindset of an entrepreneur. From understanding founder culture to defining your personal success criteria as a founder . Feat. guest speaker: Ron Tite - President, Church + State</li></ul><ul><li>Quick &amp; Dirty Market Research - In this session, participants will be exposed to the different tools and methodologies in doing market research for a start-up. There will also be a deeper dive into cases of businesses that skipped the validation step and what lessons can be learned. Feat. guest speaker: James Appleyard - President, Freycinet Venture Capital</li></ul><ul><li>Target Market &amp; Problem Definition - Clearly defining a target market is the cornerstone for any successful business. This session will go through how to do this effectively. Feat. guest speaker: Hirsch Keshav - Founder-in-residence, Entrepreneur First</li></ul><ul><li>MVPs - The best way to align your team internally is through external communications. Often the creation of a company website forces a team to express strategy through effective communications. This session will go through the process of how to do this and how to tackle. Feat. guest speaker: Bram Warshafsky - CEO, Shelfgram</li></ul>These sessions will be hosted by Rachel Zimmer, who is the General Manager of Entrepreneur First, and is an experienced Canadian entrepreneur who successfully built and exited her software startup. Each session features guest speakers from a variety of roles (founders, investors, subject matter experts) from the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
